The Boxer is a intelligent, playful dog which also does well with children. They are spirited and patient as well as protective with children, thus making them a popular pet selection among families. In spite of its appearance, the Boxer is not vicious or aggresive, but rather has guardian instincts and can develop a strong bond with its family. They also do well with puppies and smaller dogs; however, difficulties may be encountered with larger dogs, particularly of the same sex. The Boxer requires adequate exercise to prevent boredom-induced behavioral problems such as chewing, licking or digging. The breed also has some degree of a reputation for being headstrong. Due to their working-breed heritage and intelligence, corrections-based training is only of limited value.
