Golden Retrievers are well-known pets. They are easy to train to either basic or high standards of obedience. This breed is one of the most intelligent dogs, and they do well with both family and strangers. They are well suited to either suburban or country living. The breed's gentle temperment makes them excellent pets, but poor guard dogs. Golden Retrievers are also well-suited for use as hunting dogs, guide dogs and search-and-rescue dogs. They are not finicky eaters, but need at least two hours of exercise. They should be kept in fenced-in areas due to their tendency to roam. The golden retriever sheds heavily and regular grooming is required.
