German Shepherds are the second highest in popularity in the US. The breed is intelligent, trainable, strong as well as obedient, thus making them the usual first choice for such work as police, military, serach-and-rescue and acting. They are eager to learn, obedient and want to have a purpose. On the other hand, if not properly socialized, German Shepherds may end up overprotective of their family and territory. Additionally, they are not known to be quickly become friends with strangers, may be the top breed in reported bitings and have a reputation for attacking smaller dog breeds.
